Missouri Softball Team Announces Schedule
Oct. 18, 2005
Columbia, Mo. - Missouri softball Head Coach Ty Singleton announced the Tiger's 2006 schedule this afternoon. Opening the campaign, Friday, Feb. 10, with a three-game series against 2005 ACC Champion and No. 17 Georgia Tech, in Atlanta, Ga, the Tigers will take on at least seven of the nation's top-25 programs throughout a four-month span.
Fans will have their first chance of the season to catch the Tigers at home March 7, 2006, when Missouri and Truman State go head-to-head in a doubleheader slated for a 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (CT) start. Nineteen home games will be contested on the newly renovated University Field including the second annual Tiger Invitational, March 10-12. Drake and Mississippi Valley State will travel to Columbia for the three-day series.
The Tigers will travel to Norman, Okla., for their first Big 12 competition of the season. The Oklahoma Sooners advanced to the 2005 Super Regionals but were eliminated by Arizona. In all, Missouri will pair with 15 teams that advanced to the 2005 NCAA Regional tournament, five of which advanced to the first-ever NCAA Super Regionals and one team, Texas, who competed in the 2005 Women's College World Series.
Singleton and his squad will participate in two tournaments this season. Beginning Feb. 17, with the Arizona Tournament in Tuscon, Ariz., the Tigers will then venture south to the Lead-Off Classic Feb. 24-26. This marks Missouri's first appearance in the Lead-Off Classic since the 2002 season when they went 3-3.
The Big 12 Championships will once again be held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., beginning May 10 with the title game held May 14.
The Missouri softball program, now in its 32nd year of competition, closed out the 2005 season with a 44-15 record and ranked 20th in the nation after qualifying for a third straight NCAA Regional tournament.
