Seven Tigers Named to Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball Team

Missouri and Nebraska tie for most individuals earning Academic All-Conference.

Seven members of the Mizzou Volleyball team were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. The seven student-athletes earning Academic All-Conference is the most in Missouri Volleyball history.

Missouri and Nebraska led the league with the most selections at seven each.

Abbie Booth, Lisa Boyd, Shen Danru, Lindsey Noll and Jessica Vander Kooi were named to the First Team, while Lindsey Hunter and Nicole Wilson each earned Second Team recognition.

This marks the third time that Danru has been named to the squad and it is the second Academic All-Conference honor for Boyd, Noll and Hunter. Booth, Vander Kooi and Wilson are first-time honorees.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league squad consisted of 37 first team members combined with 15 on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in each of the two previous semesters while participating in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.

Mizzou, which is ranked No. 25 in this week's USA Today/CSTV Top 25, will host No. 3 Nebraska at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers are currently tied for third place in the Big 12 Conference with a 12-4 record in the league with four matches remaining in the regular season.

 

 

Tigers Sweep SIUE to Close Non-Conference Schedule

The Missouri volleyball team (7-6 Overall, 1-2 Big 12) took a quick break from conference play to host the SIU Edwardsville Cougars (2-6) Saturday night. The Tigers swept the Cougars, who are in its first year of reclassification from NCAA Division II to Division I, in just over an hour's time, 25-8, 25-21, 25-22. Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) scored three aces on night and a total of 16 points in scoring 11 kills and adding two solo blocks.

Mizzou on TV at No. 16 K-State Wednesday

The Missouri volleyball team (8-7, 2-3 Big 12) starts a three-match on television streak Wednesday when they will travel to No. 16 Kansas State (14-3, 4-2 Big 12). The match will be aired live on FSN Kansas City, reaching markets in both Kansas City and Columbia.

October Slate Starts with Cyclones, New Look to Hearnes

The Missouri volleyball squad (7-6, 1-2 Big 12) will open the October calendar on Wednesday in hosting Iowa State (9-6, 1-3 Big 12) in a Big 12 tussle that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Cyclones, in its previous match Saturday, lost a four-setter to Nebraska while the Tigers, on the same day, won its second-straight match in a sweep over SIU Edwardsville. In addition, the Hearnes Center has a new look - complete with 35-foot-long banners that line each of the four ends of the arena.
